SOUTH DAKOTA POAC FUTURITIES RULES
DEFINITION—A futurity is a means by which an individual stakes his judgment and ability as a breeder on the future, the proof of which will be shown in competition against other breeders on a compatible basis as to age, sex, and size.
Halter Futurities – General Rules
Owners must be current members of the SDPOA Club. Any owner or lessee may make as many nominations as he or she wishes. Nominations must list the name and number of the sire and dam. Entries must be registered by the POAC. Halter classes will be divided according to sex. Up to ten percent of the fees will be retained by the futurity committee to be used toward the expenses of administering the futurity. Balance of the fees shall be returned in the form of premiums. Payments will be jackpotted and returned in the form of premiums.
The placings in the futurity will be made to four places which will pay 40-30-20-10. In the event there are less than four POAs shown, the monies will be distributed as follows:
Three POAs – 50-30-20
Two POAs -- 60-40
One POA -- 100
The futurity will be shown at the Sioux Empire Fair POA Shows. If an animal entered in the futurity is sold, its futurity rights go with it if the new owner complies with the rules. The futurity committee, with the help of the Board of Directors, shall handle any unseen circumstances that may arise and their ruling shall be binding and final.
WEANLING FUTURITY
POAs are eligible only if they are nominated in dam. Person making nominations must be owner or lessee of the dam at the time.
Payments are as follows:
Nomination fee -- March 1, …………$2.00
Sustaining fee -- May 1, ……………$3.00
Final fee -- July 15, ………….$10.00
If the sustaining fee and/or final fee are not made by the owner, the nominated foal can be reinstated by doubling the payments. No payments accepted after August 15, .
YEARLING AND TWO YEAR OLD FUTURITIES
Yearling stallion, gelding and mare futurities are open (they need not have been nominated in dam). Payments will be as follows:
First payment – May 1, ……………..$7.50
Final payment – July 15, ……………$7.50
Late payments can be made by doubling only the payments missed. Penalty payment will be accepted until August 15, .
Two year stallion, gelding and mare futurities are the same as shown in yearling section.
PERFORMANCE FUTURITIES:
Two year old snaffle bit western pleasure
Two year old hunter under saddle
Three, Four and Five Year Old Western Pleasure
Three, Four and Five Year Old Hunter Under Saddle
Driving futurity is limited to yearling and two year old POAs.

The halter futurities will be held within the halter classes at the Sioux Empire Fair Show. The performance futurities will be held separately at the Sioux Empire Fair Show. A call judge for each futurity will be determined prior to the judging of the futurities.
Send the following information:
Weanling futurity—send the name and registration number of dam and stallion. The name, sex, and registration number of the weanling must be sent by July 15, .
All other futurities—send the name and registration number of nominated POA and the name and registration number of the dam and sire.
